Caring for donkeys on a very limited budget means that priorities for the use of donations are always changing. So we have put together a future 'wish list'. Maybe you could help us towards funding one of the following projects.
FENCING AND FIELD SHELTER
Now we have taken in more donkeys we need to fence in some more land for them to roam freely in. We will also need a simple field shelter and the field will need gates in order to get a tractor in if there was an emergency. Agricultural water also needs to be connected. Because of his bad back Alistair is unable to take on this project himself so we need to pay someone to do it. We have a piece of land that can be used for this.
We do not have an exact cost of this but it will be in the region of 3000 euros.

A NEW ROOF
NEW ROOF FOR LARGE STABLE
This 45 sq.metre barn is the first shelter that Alistair and I built together. We built it all in wood with a plastic sheeting roof. Unfortunately we did not realise that the quality of the wood here is not brilliant and when there is heavy rain the roof leaks. We would very much like to replace the wooden roof with metal like we have on the other stables which would mean that the floor would stay nice and dry. At the same time we would be able to collect rain water, to avoid paying for water and being more ecologicically responsibe.
Large Barn New Roof - all figures are in Euros
Roof panels 11 @ 25 each 275
Roofing timbers 10 @ 20 each 200
Fixings All 75
Guttering All 40
Water tanks 2 @ 85 each 170
Total 760 Euros
This money has been donated by Donna Van Zandt and Ryan Schmierer of the USA. They are also visiting us to help do this work later in the year. Thank you so very much.
We would like to Form a 'Syllogos'
A syllogos is a not for profit organization. Being a syllogos would give us a number of advantages, including, having a tax number so that we could approach Greek organisations for support. They would be able to claim this against profits for taxation purposes. Most importantly many funds, trusts and large charities will not assist unless we are registered. We would also legally be able to fundraise here in Greece.
A local lawyer, who is very concerned about animal welfare has agreed to carry out the legal work without charge. We actually had two lawyers make this offer.
The Court costs, including advertising are 600 Euros.
Total 600 Euros
This money has been donated by Kelly Pegg of the USA. The court date is set for the end of October 2010. Thank you so much Kelly.
A DONKEY TRAILER

Mackie arriving at our farm
How do we get donkeys that need rescuing from their old homes to our farm?
If a donkey is fit enough and not more than 14 kms away, it is possible for us to walk them to the farm. But increasingly we are being asked to re-home donkeys that are further afield. This is difficult and sometimes impossible as it involves trying to find someone to help us move the donkey. We had to wait weeks before we could move Penny and this is worrying. If a donkey needs a new home we would like to be able to fetch it immediately before the owner decides to kill the donkey or give it away to an unsuitable home.
If a donkey is being badly treated we need to move the donkey away from its owner as soon as possible.
We are also not happy at the way donkeys get transported on the back of small trucks
WE NEED A SMALL TRAILER SUITABLE FOR TRANSPORTING 1 OR MAYBE 2 DONKEYS
If we had a trailer we would also be able to buy hay and straw in bulk which would save us money. Because we are not on the main road we cannot get this delivered.
