Malles is the ideal location for a nature holiday. Located in a real working village, where there are still 30 working donkeys, this is where you can be a part of real Cretan village life. Malles is famous for its honey production and fine wine, served from the barrel. You will find these easily obtainable – just ask. But, you are only a fairly short drive from beaches, tavernas, supermarkets etc. and a little further away from the bright lights on the north coast.

Spiti Pavlos is situated right in the heart of Malles, a bustling mountain village with a few traditional kafenia and shops for basic essential supplies. The house, which has over the years been a mosque and the prison house was sympathetically restored to fit into the village style. The furniture is tasteful as this was to be only the owner’s holiday home. Much more comfort than a beachside apartment, but just 20 minutes away from the beaches. Well off the beaten track, but in easy driving distance of the major sites.

Notes on accommodation
Spiti Pavlos is suitable for all seasons. The air conditioning in all three bedrooms is independently controlled, to provide hot or cold air depending on what is required. A large wood burning fire will provide a delightful cozy environment for those coming in the cooler months or when the evenings are a bit chilly. The dining room, courtyard, garden and terrace give lots of privacy for dining or relaxing, depending on whether you want sun or shade. Children will love the village as there are lots of lanes to explore, away from traffic and local people will look out for them.

2 bedrooms having separate entrances to the street can give more privacy, if required, than most properties.

All bedrooms are on the first floor and lead easily to the large terrace at that level.

The house has been expensively furnished as it was originally intended for the owners personal use only.

Outside
Outside – Outside there is an attractive enclosed courtyard, which leads onto the street. The courtyard is ideal for resting in the heat of the day and has a barbeque and dining area.
Stairs from the courtyard lead up to a large terrace. This has lounge furniture, a large shaded area when the sun is too hot as well as a large open area for sun bathing and great mountain views of the Selakano Forest. To the rear of the house is a secluded garden area providing another lounging area. This can be ideal in the heat of the day, being in the shade. Malles is a maze of lanes , many are original donkey paths with the old paving stones. Round every corner there is something different to see. A donkey with its owner on the way to the fields. Ancient churches. The terrace can also be accessed directly from the bedrooms.

Special interest holidays
We offer a range of walks and outings some with our donkeys to carry the packs. Walks to find the rare indigenous plants of Crete such as the Cretan Peony and Tulip. The protected Cretan Cyclamen can also be found in the area.

 In Spring walks and outings to view the Orchids are possible as the area around Malles are the best places to find a wide array of Orchids. Around Malles the Cretan Wildcat can be found.

Nearby is a large colony of Griffon Vultures where we can take guests to see these magnificent birds at close quarters. Further afield we can go to see the very rare Lammergieir, or Bearded Vulture. Very rare as there are only 25 in Greece all of which are in Crete. Walks are also possible in the Serakina Gorge and Selakano Forest.
